Sergeant First Class Larry Willard Myres (U.S. Army Retired), age76, of Russellville, KY passed away at his home on November 16, 2023. Larry was born October 23, 1947, in Santa Rosa, CA, to the late King Willard Myres and the late Eddy-Lou White Myres.
As a young man, he answered the call of his country, to serve in the United States. Army. During those 25 years, he earned his Sergeant First Class rank and would serve not only during the Vietnam War, but also in Honduras, Korea and several other countries. He served his country with distinction and honor and earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, and two Overseas Bars.
Larry had a passion for motorcycle riding, model planes, fishing and participating in amateur bass fishing tournaments. A highlight of Larry’s life was being able to join over a million riders in the Rolling Thunder Run, to Washington D.C., in remembrance of fallen and unaccounted for soldiers.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, King Willard Myers and Eddy-Lou White Myres, by his sister Beverly Shaffer and his brother Tommy Myres.
He is survived by his wife, Lorree Myres; two daughters, Shannon Davis (Adam) of Phenix City, AL and Johanna Fair of Hot Springs, AR; two grandchildren, Randal Fair of Hot Springs, AR and Valina Deckard (Brent) of Jonesboro, AR; one great grandchild, Archie Deckard of Jonesboro, AR; one brother, Ken Myres of Central Point, OR; his bonus children, V. Mechelle Irvin (Darrell) of Kennesaw, GA; and David, Adrian and Valeria Manzo of Montevallo, AL.
A military graveside service will be held at 1pm CT, Monday, November 20,2023, at Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford, KY. The service will be conducted by the Amvets Post KY 0117.
