Dorothy Barnes Samuels, 94, of Cadiz, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Barkley Plantation Assisted Living. She was born in Hartford, KY, on November 14, 1924. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Stanley Lovell Samuels, and by her parents, James Glenn Barnes and Edith Tinsley Barnes. She was a long-time member of Hartford United Methodist Church and served on various committees. Dorothy was a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College in Winchester, KY. Dorothy is survived by her four children: Stan Samuels, Jr., and his wife, Nancy Hostetter, of Decatur, GA; Lynn Samuels Parrott and her husband, Ray, of Cadiz, KY; Steven Samuels of LaGrange, KY; and Laura Samuels of Cadiz, KY; three grandchildren: Jessica Oliver, her husband, Chris, and their three children of Mt. Juliet, TN; Hank Samuels of Atlanta, GA; and Pete Samuels of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by her best friend since the age of five, Bessie Lynn Hunley of Owensboro, KY. Dorothy was a wonderful daughter, wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and friend who was dearly loved by her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Hartford United Methodist Church, Hartford, KY, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018. A private graveside service for the family will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Hartford, KY. Services will be officiated by Rev. Sandy Douglass. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hartford United Methodist Church, 141 E. Center Street, Hartford, KY 42347, would be appreciated. Arrangements are being made by Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home, Hartford, KY.
